Barnsley face race against time over deadline day Liverpool transfer ahead of Bristol City clash

Barnsley are battling to try and get a deal done for former Bristol City midfielder Herbie Kane on deadline day.

And the Tykes are in a race against time to try and get the deal done for the Liverpool man in time for him to face his old club this weekend.

City travel to Oakwell tomorrow to face Barnsley as the Championship returns after the international break, with Dean Holden's men looking to make it five wins from five in the second tier at the beginning of the 2020/21 season.

But they could come up against a familiar face - if Barnsley can get a deal to sign Kane done in time.

Barnsley are understood to be in advanced talks to sign the 21-year-old, who has previously had loan spells at Hull City and Doncaster Rovers.

However, they will need to tie up a deal before the domestic transfer window deadline at 5pm today, and before 12pm if they want him to feature against Bristol City.

The Bristol-born midfielder started his career with the Robins, before joining Liverpool at the age of 15, where he impressed in the youth ranks working alongside Reds legend Steven Gerrard during his time as an academy coach.
