Barney McKeown relishing his return to Newry City

Barney McKeown is targeting a big impact as he makes a return to Newry City.

McKeown makes the move to The Showgrounds following the expiration of his contract with Portadown.

The 21-year-old spent one season at Newry three years ago, but it was blighted by injury before he made the switch to Shamrock Park.

McKeown is delighted to be back at the club and is determined to make the most of it.

“It’s great to sign for the club again," he said.

"I really enjoyed my time at The Showgrounds in my first spell even though I didn’t get the game time l would have liked through injury problems.

"Last season I was able to fend the injuries off so I am hoping that will continue, I’m looking forward to getting back into the dressing room and start to prepare for the season ahead.”

McKeown follows Ciaran O'Connor and Adam Salley as manager Gary Boyle's summer recruits to date and the new boss is thrilled to bring him back to the club.

“Barney is a player we all know and trust having played at The Showgrounds in the 19/20 season," said Boyle.

"He’s the profile of player we are looking for, has played and captained a team in the Premiership at the tender age of 21; we are sure his development will continue and his best years are with us at NCAFC.

"His desire to remain in the Premiership and return to the club is testament to his character and we are delighted to have him on board. "
