Barnet 6 Crystal Palace 2: Non-league Bees come from behind to thrash Eagles in pre-season clash

A weak Crystal Palace side were beaten 5-2 by non-league Barnet as the Eagles continued their preparations for the new season.

Roy Hodgson named a youthful side with the seniors involved in their trip to Switzerland having only traveled back after their friendly defeat to Young Boys on Saturday.

There were chances though for strikers Connor Wickham and Alexander Sorloth, both keen to make a point with Hodgson still on the lookout for a striker this summer.

The front two combined after just two minutes to tee up young wing-back David Boateng for the opener, Wickham finding Sorloth, who rolled the ball into the path of the 18-year-old to fire home.

Wickham had one of his own inside ten minutes, too, finding space at the far post to volley home and double the lead.

Things looked to be going well for Hodgson's side before the National League hosts fired two goals late in the first half, Mo Bettamer converting from the spot after Ryan Inniss had given away a penalty before, moments later, Jack Barham brought them level having earlier missed two good chances with his head.

Barnet picked up where they left off after the break too, substitute David Tutonda finishing smartly across Stephen Henderson to take the lead just two minutes after the restart.

From there this young Palace side were all but done, Tutonda added a second when found unmarked at the far post ten minutes later before another sub in Simeon Akinola made it five with 20 minutes left on the clock. A Barnet trialist added a sixth with almost the final kick of the game.
