Barn destroyed in intense inferno which has been burning all night in Welshpool

Crews from five fire stations were called to a huge barn fire at a farm in Adfa, near Welshpool , on Tuesday.

The barn, which was full of straw, was completely destroyed when the fire started just after 12.30am.

Fire crews from LLanfair Caereinion, Montgomery, Welshpool and Newtown fire stations are tackling the fire, which was still not completely out by lunchtime.

Llandrindod Wells Fire Station supplied a bowser, or water tanker, to re-supply the other crews.

The corrugated metal sheeting on the barn can be seen sagging and melting on images taken by the fire crews in attendence.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined and the incident is still ongoing as crews are trying to bring the blaze under control.

A spokesman for Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: "At 12.24am this morning, Tuesday August 27, crews from Llanfair Caereinion, Newtown, Welshpool, Montomery and Llandrindod Wells attended a barn fire near Adfa, Newtown.

"The barn was full of straw and well alight.

"Crews are currently continuing to damp down the fire. The incident is still ongoing."
