JYE Parker, the Newcastle man who lost his left arm when a beer keg exploded at the Bar Beach Bowling Club in 2014, has agreed to settle a lawsuit against the club out of court for an undisclosed amount.
Mr Parker, who was lucky to survive the explosion in the cool room of the Kilgour Avenue club in October, 2014, had launched legal action against both Carlton & United Breweries, the beer company who supplied the keg, and the bowling club in the NSW Supreme Court in July, 2017, claiming they were negligent and had breached their duty of care.
He settled out of court with the beer supplier in April, 2019, for $100,000 in costs, but in May this year it was revealed he was still seeking more than $2.7 million in damages from the club.
The civil suit against the bowling club was listed for a week-long hearing in the Supreme Court this week, but on Monday the matter resolved by agreement between the parties for a judgment in favour of Mr Parker with costs.
In an earlier cross claim, the beer company agreed to pay the club $130,000 in costs.
