Barlinnie prison coronavirus outbreak as two prisoners and worker test positive for virus

Two prisoners and a worker at HMP Barlinnie have tested positive for coronavirus.

Prison bosses today confirmed the cons, who are situated in 'A' Hall of the Glasgow jail, are now self isolating after contracting the virus.

The member of staff who has tested positive is also self isolating.

Investigations are underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the positive cases.

Visiting inmates at the infected wing has been suspended until October 20th.

Bosses claim the other prison wings are unaffected at the moment.

'A' Hall is the admission Hall for Barlinnie.

It houses convicted adult short-term prisoners and adult remand prisoners.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Prison Service said: "I can confirm two prisoners within 'A' Hall at Barlinnie Prison have tested positive for coronavirus and investigations are underway to establish the circumstances.

"The implications of this outbreak mean all visiting to 'A' Hall has been suspended until October 20th.

"At the moment we believe it has been contained within 'A' Hall.

"Visiting to other wings within the prison remain unchanged."
