Barlinnie bomb threat thug told cops 'I'll burn down Ibrox'

A Glasgow man threatened to burn down Ibrox Stadium and bomb Barlinnie prison.

Thomas Flanigan's made the threat in a bizarre early hours phone call to the jail.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard that prison guard Robert Cairnie answered the phone to the 23-year-old described as “rambling in meaningless conversation.”

He was then ordered not to call back.

But, prosecutor Lauren Donnelly told the hearing: “Flanigan said he would be waiting on him at the bottom of the road, that he was going to blow up the jail and that he was around the corner.

Police were alerted and spoke to Flanigan at his home in the city's Kelvinbridge.

Miss Donnelly added: “Flanigan became aggressive and stated: ‘You are a bunch of f*****g c***s, take these cuffs off and see what happens.”

At the police station, he continued to rant at officers.

Miss Donnelly said: “He said: ‘I will smash your c**t in and I will burn down Ibrox, those huns'.”

Flanigan today returned to the dock after admitting to two charges of threatening and abusive behaviour in June this year.

Sheriff Joan Kerr sentenced him to an 18-month community payback order as an alternative to prison.

She told him: “This is an alternative to custody.

“If you stop doing what you have been told then I can still send you to prison.”

Marissa Borland, defending, earlier told the court Flanigan had been dealing with family trouble at the time.

She said: “The previous week, he met his father and this opened up wounds in terms of his upbringing. It was all too much for him."
