A man has been stabbed in front of horrified onlookers at an east London rail station.

Witnesses told how the violent scenes unfolded on a Tube train at Barking station before the suspect fled when the doors opened.

Police and paramedics were scrambled to the scene shortly before 11.30pm on Wednesday.

The victim, whose age was not immediately clear, suffered a stab wound to his abdomen, officers said.

He was rushed to hospital. His condition was not known.

The station was closed after the incident.

British Transport Police (BTP) were appealing for witnesses to come forward.

In statement, the force said: “It appears a male has received a stab wound to his abdomen.

“The victim was taken to hospital, where he is being treated for his injury.

“Officers investigating the incident are appealing for witnesses to get in touch.”

It was not clear whether any arrests had been made and the Standard has approached BTP for further information.
