Barkindo to Asharq Al-Awsat: KSA Continues to Play Leading Role in Stabilizing Oil Markets

OPEC Secretary-General Mohammed Barkindo (Asharq Al-Awsat)

OPEC Secretary-General Mohammed Barkindo stressed that Saudi Arabia has played a “leading and responsible role in the stability of global oil markets.”

In exclusive remarks to Asharq Al-Awsat, Barkindo said the Saudi leadership’s role in stabilizing global oil markets was not only limited to the (OPEC) system, but also covered cooperation with producers and consumers alike.

Speaking on the sidelines of the International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC) 2020, he noted: “We all have to congratulate [Saudi Aramco] on organizing this conference, which will be held for the first time in Saudi Arabia, specifically in Dhahran.”

“The conference has already achieved remarkable success, by setting the record number of attendees with more than 40,000 participants, and the presence of many of the reputable and international companies and exhibitors,” he added.

Barkindo underlined that during all the six cycles of the global oil market, “the Saudi role was pivotal in achieving markets’ stability and sustainability.”

The 12th edition of the two-day International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC) 2020 was held on January 13 at the Dhahran EXPO in Dhahran, with Saudi Aramco serving as the exclusive host organization.

IPTC is a collaborative effort among the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG), the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE), the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE).

The conference was organized under the theme “Vision to Prosperity: A New Energy Era Emerges,” which reflects the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.
