Barista beats: what songs do you want played in Starbucks?

Pret a Manger may hand out freebies to customers who wink suggestively as they place their spinach and egg pots on the counter, but if its sonic titillation you’re after during your lunch break, look no further than your local Starbucks.

Gone are the days when the latest Nadine Coyle CD sat side by side with the slices of lemon loaf, not to mention any previous Apple-affiliated deals. The coffee chain has announced its partnership with streaming service Spotify for what they’re calling a “first-of-its-kind music ecosystem”. This will involve Spotify giving premium accounts to employees in the US later this year (then later Canada and the UK) and allowing them to create playlists for customers. The compilations will be accessible via the coffee chain’s smartphone app to maximise “interconnectivity”.

So what songs do you want to listen to while you sink that fresh chai creme frappuccino, use the disabled toilets, or spend £2.85 on a cheese and Marmite sandwich? Is it Coffee and TV? Bob Dylan’s One More Cup of Coffee? Otis Redding’s Cigarettes and Coffee? Or perhaps you wouldn’t mind kicking back to the year 2000 with All Saints’ Black Coffee?

Let us know in the comments below and we’ll post a Spotify playlist of the tracks later.
