Bargeddie cinema to show first festive film in October

Christmas is coming (very) early to Bargeddie next week – as Showcase cinema screens its first festive movie on Sunday, October 25.

The cinema at Barrbridge leisure park beside the A8 will be showing 1990 Macaulay Culkin classic Home Alone, describing it as “some much-needed seasonal magic”.

Movie-goers will also receive a free bag of chocolate to enjoy during the film, included in the £5 ticket price.

Showcase say they are “bringing 2020’s first Christmas film to UK big screens” in the limited-edition autumn showing, and that it will allow film fans to “start the season of goodwill early and in style”.

Its UK general manager Mark Barlow said: “This year has been tough on everyone, and with Christmas looking to be very different for 2020, we wanted to invite film fans to start the season earlier than ever and join us for some much-needed festive fun.

“We’re thrilled to be able to show Home Alone as every year it consistently tops polls as the nation’s favourite Christmas movie; so we couldn’t think of a better film to bring to the big screen.”

Tickets can be booked on the cinema’s website.

Earlier this month, Showcase management issued an assurance to customers that they are “committed to keeping our UK cinemas open” in the wake of high-profile closures of other screens by operators including Cineworld and Odeon.

The Bargeddie cinema reopened in late July after a four-month closure during the coronavirus lockdown, with new protection measures including self-scan entry points to use with tickets booked online, installation of air-purifying systems, contactless payment for refreshments and protective screens around each till.

Mr Barlow said: “We have introduced a number of new safety measures, from socially-distanced seating and staggered film times to sanitising stations throughout and every seat being sprayed after every show with a non-chemical anti-viral spray – all to help keep our guests and employees as safe as possible.”
