Bargain hunter creates ingenious toilet paper calculator to prevent panic buying

Supermarkets in the UK have been under a huge amount of stress to keep their shelves restocked amid the coronavirus crisis.

Essentials such as pasta, hand gel and most of all toilet paper have been stockpiled by the nation, leaving shelves bare and forcing stores to enforce restrictions on buying products.

To help prevent panic buying, co-founder of the bargain website LatestDeals.co.uk, Tom Church, has created a toilet paper calculator to tell families exactly how much they need.

The 29-year-old said: "I went to the supermarket and there was no toilet paper. No problem, I thought. I went to the next supermarket and it was also empty. Then I went to a third and still there was none. That was a week ago.

"Since then I've seen people leaving the supermarket with trolleys full of toilet paper. I mean bags and bags and bags of it.

"At first I thought maybe they just use the toilet a lot. Fair enough. But now it's ridiculous.

"So I set about to create a toilet paper calculator. It tells you how many rolls you actually need and you can change it depending on your wiping style."

The tool asks questions such as how many members per family and questions how many rolls you already have, as well as how many sheets are used per wipe.

The end result will tell you how many days your toilet paper will last you and will either tell you to get more or warn you to stop buying them.
