Barend Holiday Lodges at Sandyhills named Best Holiday Lodge of the Year

A Sandyhills holiday business has scooped a top national tourism award at an awards ceremony in Glasgow.

Barend Holiday Lodges took the “Best Holiday Lodge of the Year” title at the Creative Oceanic event in the Marriott Hotel.

More than 120 guests saw couple Duncan and Sarah Gell presented with the cut glass trophy.

Sarah said she was “delighted” to have won against tough competition.

“My husband and I took over the company two years ago, and along with a small but hardworking team, we have since worked hard to modernise, improve and expand the business,” she said.

“Since we took over we have worked hard to upgrade our online presence, our communal areas, including the swimming pool and reception and encouraged the lodge owners to upgrade their lodges.

“Over 50 per cent of our guests are repeat visitors, which is testimony to the popularity of the site.”

Sarah added: “This area of Scotland is sadly overlooked and we will continue to work hard with other businesses to encourage people to 'turn left at Gretna' and discover the delights of Dumfries and Galloway.”
