Barchester provides healthcare and specialist services to more than 10,000 people in the UK. Through its 220 care homes, it offers a variety of services, from respite care and assisted living to 24-hour dementia care. Its ethos is centred on protecting residents' independence as far as possible, so, alongside healthcare, Barchester offers a diverse programme of activities, including music therapy provided in partnership with charity Nordoff Robbins. The quality of its service is dependent on the quality of its staff, so Barchester invests heavily in the training and development of its employees. In 2009, the company launched a business school through which staff can undertake management courses, leadership qualifications and nursing programmes.
