Barcelona vs Real Madrid postponed as civil unrest continues in Spain

Spanish football authorities have postponed the El Clasico clash due to be played on October 26.

The Barcelona vs Real Madrid game was to take place at the Camp Nou but with riots continuing in the city, La Liga have decided to cancel the clash for now.

The RFEF have stated a new date must be agreed by both clubs by October 21 or the federation will determine it themselves.

It comes as Gerard Pique was due to refuse to train with Barcelona in protest of the treatment of Catalan protesters by Spanish police.

Pique, along with Ousmane Dembele, were due to train on Friday as they miss the weekend's trip to the Basque region to face Athletic Club but with a general strike in the region, their session was postponed until Saturday.

Pique was due to take part in the strike anyway and the club decided to move their session to allow the protest.

Earlier this week Pique praised the club for a statement in which they criticised the jailing of nine Catalan political leaders over their intent to become independent.

Rioting has continued throughout the week with streets being set on fire, petrol bombs being thrown and police angrily attacking protestors.
