Barcelona vs Real Madrid LIVE: El Clasico result, match stream and latest updates today

Barcelona vs Real Madrid LIVE!

Barcelona look set to be crowned as new LaLiga champions after edging Real Madrid in an enthralling derby showdown on Sunday. As usual El Clasico certainly did not disappointment in terms of high drama and sheer entertainment as it returned for its fourth and final instalment this season, with seven goals in total and talking points galore, VAR controversy, hat-tricks, penalty decisions and much more.

Kylian Mbappe’s penalty and ruthless finish on the counter-attack put Madrid 2-0 up inside the first quarter of an hour at a sunny Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys, only for Barcelona to hit back through first Eric Garcia and then the in-form Lamine Yamal, before Raphinha netted twice before half-time as they quickly turned that daunting early deficit into a commanding 4-2 advantage in Catalonia.

Mbappe’s hat-trick goal with 20 minutes to go set up a pulsating finish and Fermin Lopez’s stoppage-time effort was ruled out, but Barca still held on to all-but seal the title with a seven-point cushion to Los Blancos and only three games left to play this season as Carlo Ancelotti’s final Clasico in charge ended in more disappointment. Barcelona 4-3 Real Madrid

Full-time

And so ends one of the most incredible Clasico clashes you will ever see.

Even by the lofty and often bonkers standards of this illustrious fixture, that was just something else entirely.

Goals galore, comebacks, VAR controversy, penalties, hat-tricks - that game simply had it all.

The end result is Barcelona going seven points clear of their fiercest rivals at the LaLiga summit with just three games left to play this season.

While the title is not mathematically theirs just yet, it would take an extraordinary sequence of events now to deny them.

They would be confirmed as champions as soon as Wednesday night if Real Madrid do not win at home to Real Mallorca.

Barca are next in action in another derby away at Espanyol on Thursday evening.

Real Madrid simply had to win today and didn’t, frittering away an early 2-0 goal lead in a hugely disappointing final Clasico at the helm for Carlo Ancelotti.

96 mins: Fermin catches out Valverde out wide and cuts in with menace, beating defenders before rifling beyond Courtois and into the far corner.

It’s a brilliant goal and the stadium erupts with more chants of “campeones” ringing out.

But hang on, they are going to check this for a potential handball against Fermin.

It’s ruled out!

Why not Rodrygo?! Bizarre.

Gavi replaces Ferran for Barca.

Barcelona 4-3 Real Madrid

17:06 , George Flood

84 mins: Chances at both ends as a flying Courtois repels another Barcelona ball into the six-yard box, before a disappointing low effort from Vinicius Jr is then easily held by Szczesny.

Huge, huge moments in this game and the LaLiga title race.

Barcelona 4-3 Real Madrid

17:00 , George Flood

79 mins: Courtois with a strong one-handed save to thwart Yamal before Ferran’s follow-up effort hits the hand of Tchouameni on the edge of the six-yard box.

Barcelona demand a penalty, but there’s nothing given. VAR will look at this.

We should clarify also that Ronald Araujo was the man booked on the Barca bench earlier on.

Barcelona 4-3 Real Madrid

76 mins: A key block inside the box from De Jong as Real Madrid now look for a dramatic leveller.

Barcelona 4-3 Real Madrid

16:55

74 mins: Barca are pushing hard to restore that two-goal advantage as Courtois gets down low to deny Yamal, whose fine pass to the back post is then somehow turned over by a sliding Raphinha.

That really should have been his hat-trick!

GOAL! Barcelona 4-3 Real Madrid | Kylian Mbappe 70'

16:51 , George Flood

70 mins: Now then!

Mbappe, teed up by Vinicius Jr, completes his hat-trick to set up a grandstand last 20 minutes in this pulsating Clasico!

The goal stands after a VAR check for offside.

Barcelona 4-2 Real Madrid

16:50

67 mins: Ferran is sent through but slips as he goes to finish past Courtois.

I think he knew the offside flag was coming there.

Barcelona 4-2 Real Madrid

16:48 , George Flood

64 mins: Barcelona are still in firm control of this second half, playing some lovely football and forcing a succession of corners.

Raphinha and Yamal will deservedly get the plaudits as usual, but Ferran has also been nice and sharp deputising for Lewandowski up top.

Surprised we’ve not seen the likes of Endrick and Rodrygo already for Real Madrid, who don’t really have many other options to bring on to try and turn the tide.

Barcelona 4-2 Real Madrid

16:41 , George Flood

59 mins: Mbappe and Bellingham are trying their hardest to launch a Real Madrid comeback here, but Szczesny is equal to the latest cross into the box.

Half an hour to go and Los Blancos have to start scoring.

The LaLiga title race is surely done if they somehow draw, let alone lose.

Barcelona 4-2 Real Madrid

16:39 , George Flood

57 mins: Barcelona almost inches away from a fifth goal as Yamal puts just too much power on a lofted pass intended for the run of Raphinha at the back post.

Barcelona 4-2 Real Madrid

16:38 , George Flood

56 mins: Cubarsi has picked up a knock here for Barcelona and heads off.

Also making way in that Barca defence is Gerard Martin.

On come the fit-again Alejandro Balde and Andreas Christensen.

Barcelona 4-2 Real Madrid

16:36 , George Flood

54 mins: Inigo Martinez picks up Barcelona’s first booking of this Clasico for a dangerous challenge on Bellingham.

Chance for Madrid as Bellingham’s lovely reverse pass releases Mbappe, who squares up Martinez before driving wide of the far post.

Barcelona 4-2 Real Madrid

16:33 , George Flood

51 mins: The challenges are flying in thick and fast now as Vinicius Jr charges in on Eric Garcia.

Raphinha is sent clear down the left flank by Ferran and unselfishly tees up Yamal to tap in Barca’s fifth goal of the afternoon from close range.

But their celebrations are quickly curtailed by the offside flag. As you were!

Barcelona 4-2 Real Madrid

16:31

48 mins: Raphinha - like Mbappe, now on a hat-trick - almost turns home another low cross into the Madrid box before Yamal has an effort blocked and then curls wide.

Asencio now joins Valverde and Tchouameni in the book for slicing down Ferran.

He then squares up to De Jong.

Barcelona 4-2 Real Madrid

16:26

Back underway at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys.

How much more good old-fashioned Clasico drama are we going to get here?

Real Madrid absolutely have to win of course to keep the LaLiga title race alive and have sent on both Luka Modric and Brahim Diaz for the second half.

Ceballos and Guler off. Valverde and Vazquez have shaken off knocks.

Barcelona 4-2 Real Madrid

16:15 , George Flood

An absolutely astonishing first half.

Mbappe had Madrid 2-0 up inside quarter of an hour, but Barca came roaring back to lead just 20 minutes later.

They have now scored 16 times across the four Clasico meetings this season.

Real Madrid - who had a goal ruled out and a second penalty award overturned to add to the non-stop drama - are beset by defensive injuries yes, but it’s incredible just how open they are at the back all the time.

The LaLiga title looks to be heading back to Catalonia, bar a remarkable second half from Los Blancos.

Barcelona 4-2 Real Madrid

16:09 , George Flood

52 mins: Mbappe has the ball in the net for the third time today after being picked out by a fine Bellingham pass, drilling low beyond Szczesny.

But the offside flag is quickly - and rightly - raised on the far side.

Barcelona 4-2 Real Madrid

16:06 , George Flood

48 mins: Raphinha and Vazquez are both down now after an awkward collision and will need treatment.

We’ll have more added time to play yet.

Barcelona 4-2 Real Madrid

16:05

45 mins: SIX minutes of added signalled time at the end of this crazy first half.

Valverde looks to have picked up a knee injury for Real Madrid.

GOAL! Barcelona 4-2 Real Madrid | Raphinha 45'

16:01 , George Flood

45 mins: Barcelona have another goal on the stroke of half-time!

It’s a terrible blunder from Lucas Vazquez, who is caught in possession inside the box by Raphinha, who then shoots low past Courtois after being returned the ball by Ferran.

Six goals in the first half. Incredible.

Barcelona 3-2 Real Madrid

16:00

44 mins: NO PENALTY

The decision is reversed by referee Alejandro Jose Hernandez, but it’s because of an offside against Jude Bellingham.

A yellow card has been brandished to someone on that Barcelona bench.

Barcelona 3-2 Real Madrid

15:59 , George Flood

43 mins: Mbappe can’t finish Bellingham’s dangerous cutback but wins a second penalty for Real Madrid after being brought down by De Jong.

This will surely be overturned though, there was clearly no contact there.

Barcelona 3-2 Real Madrid

15:58 , George Flood

41 mins: Real Madrid are absolutely all over the place here and will be desperate for that half-time whistle.

They really should be 4-2 down as Yamal’s beautiful and inventive cross with the outside of the boot picks out Raphinha, who can’t head home his second goal of the day.

A huge chance wasted.

Barcelona 3-2 Real Madrid

15:54

36 mins: Still Barcelona pour forward creating chances, with Flick demanding a red card after Tchouameni’s risky foul on Raphinha.

The Frenchman sees yellow early.

GOAL! Barcelona 3-2 Real Madrid | Raphinha 34'

15:50

34 mins: What on earth is happening?!

Calamity at the back from Madrid and Raphinha finishes coolly to put Barcelona in front in the blink of an eye.

From 2-0 down in the first quarter of an hour to 3-2 up with still 10 minutes to play until half-time.

Utter madness in the Clasico as usual.

GOAL! Barcelona 2-2 Real Madrid | Lamine Yamal 32'

15:48 , George Flood

32 mins: What a goal from Lamine Yamal to level for Barcelona!

The teenage sensation curls a first-time effort beyond Courtois and into the far bottom corner after being teed up by Ferran.

Was there a handball by De Jong in the build-up?

Apparently not...

Barcelona 1-2 Real Madrid

15:46 , George Flood

28 mins: The first yellow card of this Clasico clash goes to Valverde for an ill-timed challenge on Yamal.

Bellingham with another attentive clearance from a set-piece inside the Barca box.

Some tempo to this game still.

Barcelona 1-2 Real Madrid

15:44

25 mins: Barcelona are pressing so well now and with such intensity that Real Madrid cannot escape.

Courtois saves from Yamal and Bellingham has to be alert to clear a dangerous delivery to the back post.

Madrid still with that obvious threat on the counter through Mbappe, who is hunting a first-half hat-trick.

Barcelona 1-2 Real Madrid

15:39

20 mins: Chances galore for Barcelona now as Gerard Martin threatens again inside the box and Ferran can’t flick home from yards out.

This could wind up any score.

GOAL! Barcelona 1-2 Real Madrid | Eric Garcia 19'

15:36 , George Flood

19 mins: The hosts pull one back and the early goal flurry continues!

Real Madrid’s vulnerability defending set-pieces is exposed again as Eric Garcia flicks in Ferran Torres’ corner from close range.

What a start in Catalonia!

Barcelona 0-2 Real Madrid

15:35 , George Flood

18 mins: Barcelona have suddenly woken up and Real Madrid are now under siege, Courtois saving hopeful efforts from both Yamal and Gerard Martin.

Inigo Martinez also went close from a corner.

GOAL! Barcelona 0-2 Real Madrid | Kylian Mbappe 14'

15:32 , George Flood

14 mins: Barcelona are carved open on the counter-attack and Mbappe fires home his second goal inside the first quarter of an hour!

The goal stands after a VAR check for offside.

Barcelona are absolutely furious not to have earned a foul for Fran Garcia’s challenge on Lamine Yamal in the build-up.

Flick is raging on the touchline.

Barcelona 0-1 Real Madrid

15:30 , George Flood

12 mins: A wicked low delivery comes in from the Barca left, but it falls safe after flashing dangerously across the six-yard box.

Olmo couldn’t connect, but I think he was offside anyway.

At the other end, Gerard Martin stays alert to deny Mbappe before Vinicius Jr loses out.

Barcelona 0-1 Real Madrid

15:28 , George Flood

10 mins: That’s a vital challenge from Asencio on Ferran as Barcelona broke into the Madrid box.

Also a big tackle from Bellingham on Olmo in there.

No chance this ends 1-0, is there?

Barcelona 0-1 Real Madrid

15:25 , George Flood

7 mins: Barcelona look to hit back quickly as Courtois turns a low cross behind at his near post, with the subsequent corner coming to nothing.

A very direct approach from Madrid so far.

GOAL! Barcelona 0-1 Real Madrid | Kylian Mbappe (pen) 5'

15:21 , George Flood

5 mins: Low and hard, into the bottom right corner from Mbappe.

Szczesny got something on it, but there was far too much power to keep it out.

A dream start for Real Madrid!

Barcelona 0-0 Real Madrid

15:20 , George Flood

5 mins: That VAR check took an age, but it IS a penalty to Real Madrid.

Mbappe to step up...

Barcelona 0-0 Real Madrid

15:20

3 mins: Real Madrid have an early penalty after a huge error from Cubarsi is followed by Szczesny completely upending Mbappe inside the box!

But is it offside? Barcelona will certainly hope so...

Barcelona 0-0 Real Madrid

15:18

3 mins: Tense stuff early on with possession for both sides and not a lot of composure or quality so far.

Plenty of challenges going in early doors, as you might expect.

Barcelona vs Real Madrid

15:16 , George Flood

Here we go!

And a crunching foul from Valverde on De Jong to open.

Start as you mean to go on, though Raphinha’s free-kick delivery to the back post is long and goes wide for a goal kick.

Barcelona vs Real Madrid

A sea of flags and scarves twirling at a sun-soaked Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys as the players emerge from the tunnel.

Barcelona are wearing special edition ‘Cactus Jack’ shirts this afternoon as part of their link-up with the rapper Travis Scott.

Kick-off approaching in huge Clasico clash

15:07

Final preparations in Catalonia!

Barcelona have beaten Real Madrid three times already this season, scoring 12 goals in the process.

Can Los Blancos finally buck that trend this afternoon to keep their LaLiga title hopes alive?

Ancelotti: My honeymoon with Real Madrid will last forever

14:50

It is easy to forget of late given all the reports of his imminent exit that this season saw Carlo Ancelotti become the most successful coach in Real Madrid history.

The Italian has lifted 15 pieces of major silverware in total across his two spells at the Bernabeu, overtaking the legendary Miguel Munoz.

And despite those recent struggles and his impending second departure, Ancelotti insists his honeymoon with Real Madrid will never end.

“The honeymoon never ends with this club,” he said. “It will continue forever.

“Both Real Madrid and [AC] Milan are teams that stay in my heart more than others because of the time I've spent here and because I feel so good here.

“It's like relationships. At first, there's a lot of passion, and when it subsides, affection and other things increase.

“The honeymoon will last until the last day of my life.

“I don't know [if I’m the coach who best represents Real Madrid’s DNA].

“Real Madrid is a special club that deserves a special attitude from everyone who works here. It's what I've always tried to do every day.”

On his likely successor Xabi Alonso, Ancelotti added: “I've read that you're leaving Bayer Leverkusen.

“You've done a fantastic job there, and all doors are open to you because you've proven to be one of the best coaches in the world.”

Barcelona 'on right track' despite gutting Champions League exit

14:38 , George Flood

Barcelona could be forgiven for having something of a hangover today from Tuesday night’s gutting result at the San Siro, though Hansi Flick insists his side are in good spirits after holding open talks in the build-up to kick-off.

“We are doing well. After the defeat in Milan, it's not easy, but we are on the right track,” he said.

“We talked about what we want to achieve in the remaining two weeks. There are four games left, and a Clasico like tomorrow's is a very important match for us.

“It's crucial to show once again how well we can play. We must have confidence and demonstrate it in what we want to do.

“The players are showing very good form.

"We talked about what the players think and feel, and I believe it’s important to discuss these things openly.

“Everyone knows that in a game like El Clasico, we need to give 100 per cent, be active, play with intensity, and dominate,

“Real Madrid is also a fantastic team, but we are playing at home, we have our fans’ support, and they know how important this is for us.”

Clasico atmosphere building

14:25

Looks like a party atmosphere already this afternoon outside Barcelona’s temporary home at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys, which could be holding its final Clasico clash today before the club move back into a renovated Camp Nou.

The passionate home fans clearly expect another statement win over Real Madrid today to all but guarantee the LaLiga title.

Lewandowski, Balde and Casado on Barcelona bench

14:11 , George Flood

Hansi Flick opts for the same Barcelona lineup that started Tuesday night’s heartbreaking 4-3 extra-time defeat by Inter Milan in the Champions League semi-finals.

Wojciech Szczesny is still in goal despite the return to fitness of Marc-Andre ter Stegen, with Eric Garcia and Gerard Martin continuing in defence with no Jules Kounde and Alejandro Balde on the bench.

Pedri and Frenkie de Jong continue as the midfield pair, with Lamine Yamal, Dani Olmo and Raphinha in support of Ferran Torres up top.

Robert Lewandowski and Marc Casado are substitutes as expected after injury, along with Balde.

Barcelona lineup

14:06

Barcelona XI: Szczesny, Eric Garcia, Cubarsi, Inigo Martinez, Gerard Martin, Pedri, De Jong, Yamal, Olmo, Raphinha, Ferran

Ancelotti set for final Clasico before Alonso takes Real Madrid reins

14:02

Today’s game is the last Clasico of Carlo Ancelotti’s hugely successful second spell in charge of Real Madrid, with the writing having been on the wall for some time in terms of his future at the Bernabeu amid fears over a rare trophyless campaign (not counting the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Intercontinental Cup).

Former Los Blancos midfielder Xabi Alonso has long since been expected to take the reins next, with his exit at the end of the current Bundesliga season confirmed officially by Bayer Leverkusen on Friday.

Ancelotti could not resist a final little dig at Barca in his pre-match press conference on Friday, explaining that this was the last Clasico of the season because Madrid’s rivals are not in the expanded Club World Cup in the United States this summer.

On the continued speculation over his future, he said: “It's not that complicated to prepare for these matches because there's no need to prepare the players.

“You have to give them the clearest possible ideas about how they should play the match.

“What's happening around us hasn't affected us at all this week. We're fine and very confident. No problems.”

Real Madrid unchanged as Arda Guler starts again

13:47 , George Flood

Real Madrid do name their team early as usual and, as expected, Carlo Ancelotti has gone with an unchanged lineup for his final Clasico fixture in charge.

His glut of defensive injuries means Aurelien Tchouameni continues alongside Raul Asencio at the back, with Fran Garcia and Lucas Vazquez - who captains the side - the full-backs and Thibaut Courtois in goal.

Club skipper Luka Modric is only on the bench and Eduardo Camavinga still out as Federico Valverde and Dani Ceballos continue in the midfield engine room.

The headline team news is in attack, where Ancelotti rewards Arda Guler for his fine performance against Celta Vigo with another start alongside the star trio of Jude Bellingham, Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr.

That is despite Rodrygo now being back from illness, with the Brazilian named as a substitute.

Real Madrid lineup

13:29

Real Madrid XI: Courtois, Lucas Vazquez, Tchouameni, Asencio, Fran Garcia, Ceballos, Valverde, Bellingham, Guler, Mbappe, Vinicius Jr

Barcelona Femeni win 9-0 to clinch sixth straight Liga F title

13:22 , George Flood

A fourth win of the season for Barcelona over their fiercest rivals this afternoon would take them seven points clear at the LaLiga summit with only three games to play this season - surely an unassailable advantage.

And ahead of kick-off, Barcelona Femeni have wrapped up yet another title in the Liga F.

Pere Romeu’s team thrashed Real Betis 9-0 earlier at the Ciudad Deportiva Luis de Sol to clinch a sixth consecutive championship and 10th overall, having opened up a six-point lead over closest challengers Real Madrid with just one game left to play.

Madrid had been held to a 1-1 draw at home by Tenerife on Saturday.

Though that painful Champions League semi-final exit to Inter Milan cost Hansi Flick’s men’s side the chance of a treble this season, the women could still do it again with a Champions League final showdown with Arsenal in Lisbon to come on May 24, followed by the Copa de la Reina final against Atletico Madrid in June.

El Clasico prediction

13:08 , George Flood

Barcelona simply have Real Madrid’s number this season and their attack should have too much for a weakened defence.

Furthermore, Hansi Flick’s side will be fired up after their heartbreaking Champions League semi-final exit and what better way to respond by taking a giant step towards the LaLiga title and beating their bitter rivals again in the process?

Of course, Los Blancos should not be counted out. With Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr and Jude Bellingham, they have plenty of goals in this team.

The problem is they are likely to concede more than they score.

Barcelona to win, 3-1.

(REUTERS)

Real Madrid team news

13:04

I expect we will find out the Real Madrid team very soon, given how early they tend to announce their lineups for these big games.

It is generally anticipated that Los Blancos will be unchanged from last week’s 3-2 home win over Celta Vigo in which they withstood a late fightback, meaning Arda Guler - who scored their opener in that game - once again joining Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr and Jude Bellingham in attack.

That would mean only a place on the bench for usual starter Rodrygo, who has been sidelined with an illness.

Dani Carvajal, Eder Militao, Antonio Rudiger, Ferland Mendy and David Alaba are all out injured, meaning Aurelien Tchouameni should continue at centre-back alongside Raul Asencio, with Fran Garcia and Lucas Vazquez the full-backs.

(Getty Images)

Barcelona team news

12:57 , George Flood

Hansi Flick has confirmed that top scorer Robert Lewandowski will begin on the Barcelona bench again this afternoon after returning from a hamstring injury as a substitute in midweek during an agonising 4-3 defeat by Inter Milan at the San Siro that confirmed a 7-6 aggregate loss in an all-time classic Champions League tie that saw them cruelly denied a place in the final in Munich.

Joining him as a substitute - at least initially - today will be both Alejandro Balde and Marc Casado, who have also been sidelined with respective hamstring and knee issues.

Ferran Torres and Gerard Martin look set to continue in place of Lewandowski and Balde, while Eric Garcia will also start with no Jules Kounde.

Wojciech Szczesny will also continue in goal despite the return to fitness of Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Marc Bernal is also out, with Pablo Torre a doubt. However, Inigo Martinez is fit to play.

The fourth and final edition of ‘El Clasico’ is upon us this season - and the stakes could not be higher in the LaLiga title race.

Barcelona can sweep this famous rivalry for 2024/25 and all but secure the championship with another victory today just two weeks after Jules Kounde’s dramatic extra-time goal settled a thrilling Copa del Rey final in Seville.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, will be desperate to win in Catalonia and move to within just a point of the leaders with only three games left to play after today, though have huge distractions behind the scenes with Carlo Ancelotti set for his final Clasico in charge with Xabi Alonso waiting in the wings.

Kick-off at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys is at 3:15pm BST, so stay tuned for match build-up, all the latest team news and live updates.

This will be anything but dull!
