Barcelona vs Athletic Bilbao preview: LaLiga champions playing catch-up in title race as Messi chases 700 goals

Barcelona need a return to winning ways against Athletic Club tonight after Quique Setien's LaLiga champions lost control of the title race this weekend.

A goalless draw for Barca at Sevilla on Friday night offered Real Madrid the opportunity to reel in the Blaugrana, and a 2-1 win at Sociedad saw Los Blancos leapfrog their rivals to claim top spot.

Barca and Real are level on 65 points, but Zinedine Zidane's side lead the table by virtue of a superior head-to-head record - and that means Setien and his side must hope for Real to slip up.

But that also means Barca must keep up their end of the bargain and keep the pressure on, starting against Bilbao - and it could be historic night for Lionel Messi, who is chasing his 700th career goal.

Date, venue and kick-off time

Barcelona vs Athletic Club will be held at the Camp Nou on Tuesday, June 23, with kick-off scheduled for 9pm BST.

Prediction: Barcelona 1-0 Athletic Club

Given Barca have not beaten Athletic in their last three LaLiga meetings, this should prove to be another tight affair - but expect a little Messi magic to decide things.

How to watch

LaLiga and Premier Sports have confirmed that LaLigaTV will allow Sky customers to watch every Spanish top-flight game for free in June.

To get access to all the games, Sky UK customers should visit premiersports.com and register with the promo code BACKTOWIN. Non-Sky customers can also sign up using the same code.

With games due to be shown on TV on Channel 435 on Sky, fans can also live stream the matches online via the Premier Player app.

Pre-match coverage will start at 8:30pm BST.
