Barcelona 'to appeal €300 fine' after losing Antoine Griezmann transfer dispute

Barcelona are set to appeal a €300 fine from the Spanish FA over allegations of tapping-up in their move for Antoine Griezmann.

The Frenchman joined from Atletico Madrid for £108million in July but La Liga giants have been found guilty of a "minor infringement" during negotiations.

Atletico were furious that Barca were able to buy Griezmann for a reduced price after his release clause dropped on July 1.

They maintained the full £177million fee was due as the an agreement between the player and Barca was struck as early as May, when the France international declared his intention to leave the club.

According to ESPN, Barcelona are planning to contest the paltry punishment which works out at 0.0002 per cent of Griezmann’s transfer fee.

Earlier on Thursday, the Spanish FA, despite finding in Atletico's favour, admitted the fine merely serves as a "symbolic gesture".

A statement said: "This committee is aware that the payment of €300, beyond it's purely symbolic gesture, will not contribute to the club being punished in this case and probably other clubs that may be in this situation in the future, to fit their conduct within the required rules.

"It is important to highlight that the contacts between FC Barcelona occurred once the player had manifested his intention to leave Atletico Madrid."
