Barcelona still hoping to sign Eric Garcia from Manchester City before deadline day, Ronald Koeman says

Barcelona are still hoping to sign Manchester City centre-back Eric Garcia before transfer deadline day on Monday, Ronald Koeman says.

Standard Sport revealed on Friday that the Catalan club were keen on securing a deal for the defender in the current window and the Barca coach confirmed the news on Saturday.

"Until Monday there is time," Koeman said at his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday's LaLiga game at home to Sevilla. "Although there is not not long left.

"We want to have him because we have only three or four centre-backs and we are tight."

City coach Pep Guardiola has revealed that the player is keen on a move to Barcelona, where he came through the youth academy, but claimed no deal was in place for the 19-year-old and Koeman hinted that a transfer could depend on the club's fragile finances.

"What Pep said is true," the Dutch coach added. "Let's hope we sign him, but economically the things are as they are..."
