Barcelona starlet Ansu Fati's dad reveals he rejected offer from Real Madrid

Ansu Fati became Barcelona's second-youngest player at 16 years and 298 days after making his debut in the 5-2 thrashing of Real Betis on Sunday - and his proud dad has revealed how he could have been playing for Real Madrid instead.

Antoine Griezmann responded to the challenge laid down by coach Ernesto Valverde with a brilliant display as Barcelona came from behind to secure a much-needed win.

Valverde was also able to give fans a glimpse of the Barca of tomorrow as Fati became the club's second-youngest player late on.

And Bori Fati revealed that fierce rivals Madrid approached the player, with the club offering a better financial package than Barca, but they preferred the project at the Nou Camp.

He told RAC1 : "I had an offer from Madrid for a lot of money, but Albert Puig came and told me that they were Barca and that they had a project.

"That in a few years I would see him there. We know he works but we couldn't imagine that he would be playing with these beasts. Training with Pique."

The proud father also revealed the moment he found out his son, who plays as a forward, was going to make his debut in front of a blockbuster Nou Camp crowd.

"My cell phone was silent and I didn't find out. Then he called his mother and said, 'Mom, I'm going with the first team.' I jumped, I couldn't believe it...", he added.

Barca went into the game without the injured trio of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele and found themselves a goal down early on, but Griezmann equalised shortly before half-time and curled in a superb second early in the second half which had Suarez and Messi beaming their approval.

Carles Perez and Jordi Alba made sure of the points before Griezmann set up substitute Arturo Vidal for the fifth.
