Barcelona star Pedri beats Manchester United's Mason Greenwood to prestigious youth award

Barcelona's teenage sensation Pedri won the 2021 Golden Boy award, beating Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood to the award.

Pedri had a stellar 2021, helping Spain to the semi-finals of the 2020 European Championships and then winning a silver medal with Spain's Olympic side just weeks later.

Overall, the 18-year-old played an eye-watering 73 times last season as he announced himself on the football stage, and was rewarded with a brand new contract at the Camp Nou at the start of the season which has a £1billion release clause.

Greenwood was nominated for the prestigious award after firing United to a second-place finish in the Premier League and the UEFA Europa League final.

While Greenwood was overlooked for the Euros - while Pedri was named in the team of the tournament - but started the season strongly with three goals in the opening three Premier League games.

Greenwood will miss United's Champions League game against Villarreal after testing positive for Covid.

United transfer target Jude Bellingham finished second in the Golden Boy awards.
