Barcelona star 'meets Matthijs de Ligt' to convince him to make transfer choice

Barcelona have not given up on signing Matthijs de Ligt.

The Dutch defender has been heavily tipped to join Juventus after the Serie A side and Paris Saint-Germain seemingly priced the Nou Camp club out of a move.

But whilst they may not be able to match their Champions League rivals in financial terms, the Spaniards are pulling out all the stops to convince De Ligt to join them.

De Ligt is currently enjoying a holiday in the Bahamas with his girlfriend and is expected to make a final decision on his future once he returns.

According to Mundo Deportivo , Barcelona star Gerard Pique, also holidaying in the area with girlfriend Shakira, was sent to meet De Ligt to try and convince him to join the Catalan club.

The pair could become central defensive partners next season if De Ligt decides to follow Ajax team-mate Frenkie De Jong to the club.

But he has also had Cristiano Ronaldo in his ear trying to convince him to join Juventus, with Italian newspaper Tuttosport claiming on their Wednesday front page that his transfer is a done deal.

Ronaldo reportedly asked De Ligt to join him in Turin when they met in Portgual vs Netherlands in the Nations League.

But the Dutchman has yet to put pen to paper with a new club as he gets prepared to depart Ajax for a new challenge.

The 19-year-old is arguably the hottest property in world football, with Manchester United and Liverpool also interested before Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain emerged as the front-runners only for Juventus to jump to the front of the queue.

Juventus are now considered the favourites to land De Ligt, but Barcelona will be hoping Pique was able to work some magic to convince him to have a late change of heart.
