Barcelona star makes huge Liverpool claim as Champions League fallout continues

Liverpool have been blamed for Barcelona's miserable end to the season as the Catalans' treble hopes blew up in smoke.

The La Liga giants won the title days before seemingly putting one foot in the Champions League final courtesy of their 3-0 victory over the Reds at Camp Nou.

However, Jurgen Klopp 's side clinched in a famous comeback at Anfield as Divock Origi and Gini Wijnaldum braces sealed a 4-0 win to set up a final appearance with Tottenham Hotspur.

Having named a much-changed side for their defeat to Celta Vigo prior to their trip to Merseyside, Barcelona won just one of their final five games of the season.

Hopes of a domestic double were also extinguished yesterday as they suffered a surprise Copa del Rey final loss to Valencia.

And Barcelona star Gerard Pique has blamed Liverpool for the Catalans' collapse, insisting they would have won the treble had it not been for the Reds' astonishing comeback.

"I believe that if we had gotten through at Liverpool, we would have won the treble," the former Manchester United defender said after Barcelona's cup final defeat. "That is my feeling.

"We would have come here [to the Copa del Rey final] with a different mood, and I’m convinced we would have won the Champions League final, but that is football. We are really, really hurting."
