Barcelona signing Frenkie De Jong reveals what he thought after their Liverpool defeat

Youngster Frenkie De Jong played his last home game for Ajax at the weekend and bid a perfect farewell to the Johan Cruyff Arena.

De Jong helped them all but secure the Eredivisie title with a 4-1 win over Utrecht, putting their Champions League heartache behind them before he departs for the Nou Camp.

After penning a big-money deal in January to make the summer switch to Barcelona , De Jong helped his Ajax side stun Juventus and Real Madrid on their way to the Champions League semi-finals.

They were then left heartbroken by a Spurs comeback - just 24 hours after Barcelona let a 3-0 lead slip to lose 4-3 on aggregate to Liverpool .

Despite their Anfield thrashing, De Jong admitted he watched the game unsure whether he will be needed by the La Liga champions next season.

"It's been wonderful, I go to Barcelona with great joy," De Jong said after his final Ajax home game.

"It's been a fantastic season, although I would have liked to have said goodbye with three titles, but it wasn't to be.

"I watched the match between Liverpool and Barcelona. I don't know if they need me!

"Had they been in the final, they could have won the treble."
