Barcelona should be awarded LaLiga title as it's 'the fairest thing', says club legend Hristo Stoichkov

Barcelona legend Hristo Stoichkov believes a fair solution for LaLiga amid the coronavirus crisis would be to hand the title to the Catalan club.

Barca moved two points clear of Real Madrid at the top of the table prior to the suspension of the competition and shutdown in Spain, with 11 rounds of fixtures still remaining and much uncertainty over when football could restart.

And the Bulgarian, who played for the Blaugrana in two spells from 1990-95 and 1996-98, says the fairest thing would be to hand the title to Quique Setien's side.

"We don't need fear, but we do need discipline," Stoichkov told Cadena COPE in an interview.

"If we look at how the situation is, with the matches that have been played, the fairest thing would be to finish LaLiga as it is."

Stoichkov, 54, a Ballon d'Or winner in 1994, has also hatched a plan for the teams at the bottom of the table.

"Lower down, many could still avoid relegation, there are many games left," he added.

"So the league could stay as it is, with no team going down and the first two in Segunda going up to make a league of 22. Because they (Cadiz and Real Zaragoza) have worked hard and won a lot of games."
