Barcelona set to deprive Arsenal of £22m transfer boost as Gunners hit with Ousmane Dembele blow

The January transfer window is only just under two weeks away for Arsenal.

Amid the Gunners’ fresh challenge for European football, they might need some new additions if they are to sustain that.

Intriguingly, they have already been linked with a few names ahead of the market reopening, and it remains to be seen quite how many will become new Arsenal players for the second-half of the campaign. Indeed, a handful of Mikel Arteta's current squad are rumoured to be considering exits from the club.

With that being said, football.london takes a look at the latest rumours coming out of the Emirates Stadium to see how true they could be.

Spanish giants Barcelona are reportedly targeting Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ahead of a potential loan deal.

The Gabonese forward has fallen out of contention over recent weeks due to a disciplinary breach - an indiscretion that has seen him stripped of the Gunners captaincy.

Barcelona are looking to take advantage of that situation by taking him to the Camp Nou on-loan despite Aubameyang being valued at £22.5million by transfermarkt.

Sticking with the theme of Barcelona, the Catalan giants might be set to hand Arsenal a significant blow in their pursuit of Ousmane Dembele.

According to the latest reports, there is a belief at the Camp Nou that he will agree a new contract, with his current deal set to expire next summer.

The Frenchman has been linked with a move to Arsenal on numerous occasions in the past.

What?

Whilst it seems unlikely that the Gunners will be able to seal a deal for Dembele, it also appears that they will be left frustrated in their pursuit of Ajax man Noussair Mazraoui.

As per his agent Mino Raiola, the defender leaving Amsterdam in January is not currently a consideration.

He said: “I don’t think he will be leaving during the winter holidays.

“(The contract negotiations) is a difficult process but nothing is excluded.”
