Manchester City Director of Football Txiki Begiristain says Ferran Torres should be proud of his accomplishments at the club, as he was confirmed as a Barcelona player.
Torres leaves City just 18 months after signing from Valencia, with Barcelona paying an initial £46.7m, with the fee rising to £55.2m with add-ons. Of those, MEN Sport understand £6m are easily achievable, marking a fine profit on the £20.7m paid for him in 2020.
However, after Torres expressed a desire to leave, Pep Guardiola and City did not stand in his way, and he has sealed a move to Barcelona back in La Liga.
And the Nou Camp giants have ensured he will be with them for some time as they look to build an exciting side made up of youthful talents. Upon announcing his signing, they confirmed a release clause of €1bn (£842m) in his contract should any side want to sign him.
Speaking after Torres' departure was confirmed, Begiristain said: “Ferran should be proud of what he has achieved here at Manchester City.
“Last season was his first time in a new country, but he adapted well. He always gave 100 per cent, worked hard for the team and scored goals which helped us win trophies.
“Injury unfortunately prevented him from playing more games this season, but Ferran is a player we have all enjoyed working with and we wish him all the best at Barcelona and for the rest of his career.”
Torres, who scored 16 goals in 43 appearances for City, has signed a five-and-a-half-year contract at Barcelona and will move officially on January 1.
