Barcelona secure major cash injection as Leeds United brace for next Raphinha twist

Barcelona are set to receive a major cash injection after agreeing a deal with global investment firm Sixth Street for the sale of 10% of the Club’s LaLiga TV rights for the next 25 years. The Spanish giants will receive a total cash injection of €267 million over the course of the upcoming season by the American company, who will initially invest €207.5 million.

This could have major implications in their pursuit of Raphinha, who is one of their top targets this summer. Their financial woes have so proved to be a major barrier between themselves and a deal for the Leeds United star, with Chelsea having jumped to the front of the queue after agreeing a fee on Tuesday.

The Camp Nou has remained Raphinha’s favoured destination throughout the saga, though, and this investment could prove significant as they look to match Chelsea’s fee. Speaking to fcbarcelona.com, President Joan Laporta believes this will significantly ‘strengthen the club’s financial footing’ after a turbulent summer so far.

He said: “We are activating economic levers and executing on our patient, sustainable, and efficient strategy to strengthen the club’s financial footing. Sixth Street is a proven supporter of football, an experienced investor across global sports and media, and a partner that will contribute significant knowledge and resources while allowing us to independently manage our operations.”

Alan Waxman, Co-Founder and CEO of Sixth Street is looking forward to helping Barcelona achieve its goals by providing them with some financial stability. He said: “We believe in the strategy Joan Laporta and FC Barcelona are implementing and are proud that one of the most celebrated clubs in football has chosen us to be its partner and capital solutions provider.

“Our team looks forward to a long-term partnership providing our flexible capital and deep sports sector expertise to support Barça as it continues to strengthen its organization and achieve its strategic objectives.”

The Catalan side have also been linked with a move for Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski this summer.
