Seafood Expo Global postponed again after organisers state April is 'too early'

Europe’s largest seafood event has been postponed.

Seafood Expo Global, which has moved from Brussels to Barcelona, is now scheduled for September, after April was considered “too early”.

The huge event draws thousands of industry representatives from the biggest businesses, uniting supply chains from around the world. The UK has a strong representation, with Seafood Scotland, the Grimsby and wider Humber seafood cluster and the South West all featuring prominently in previous years.

Belgium’s last stand fell victim in April, and now the inaugural Spanish event has also been shifted.

Liz Plizga, group vice president of organiser Diversified Communications, said: “This postponement is an unavoidable consequence of the continued magnitude of the public health and safety issues caused by Covid-19, which are not yet showing the types of encouraging trends we have been hoping for.

"We have been closely monitoring the world health situation, government regulations and travel restrictions while carefully considering the concerns that have been addressed to us by customers and attendees.

"Unfortunately, it has become evident that April 2021 would be too early to convene the global seafood industry.”

The new date is September 7 to September 9 at Fira de Barcelona.
