Barcelona say Neymar wants Camp Nou transfer... but club chief denies contact

Barcelona vice-president Jordi Cardoner says Neymar has made it known that he wants to return to the Catalan club, but expressed doubts over a possible summer move for the 27-year-old.

The Brazilian forward spent four seasons at Barca and although he left under a cloud as Paris Saint-Germain paid his €222 million release clause in 2017, a reunion at Camp Nou is now increasingly possible.

“Neymar wants to return and he made that known,” Cardoner said on Thursday. “But the topic is not on the table. It’s not correct that Barcelona are working on the signing of Neymar.

“It’s an operation we have not approached. We don’t know it would lead to a satisfactory conclusion.”

Cardoner, who was speaking at the presentation of projects for Barca’s social area, admits there is still some discontent at the way the player left the club two years ago.

“There are things I still don’t understand about Neymar’s exit from Barca,” he said.

But he did not rule out a move to sign the former Santos attacker for a second time.

“The player’s wish to return has been transmitted to us,” he said. “But we would have to study many things and change the scenarios in order to contemplate something.

“He is a great player and I gave my assessment of him before. We can’t give assessments now.”
