Leeds United are hoping to add a new element to their attacking ranks within the coming days, with the club keen on signing Valencia striker Rodrigo.
According to reports in Spain, Leeds chairman Andrea Radrizzani and Victor Orta - the Whites' director of football - have travelled to Spain to hold face-to-face talks with the La Liga club about the prospect of signing the striker this summer.
Valencia are a club in desperate need of raising funds, with the La Liga side having been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic.
They have already been forced to offload Dani Parejo and Francis Coquelin this summer and Rodrigo could be set to follow suit, with the striker believed to be one of the club's biggest assets.
According to AS in Spain, no agreement has yet been reached between the Whites and the Spanish outfit, but Valencia are holding out for a fee of €40m.
Should Leeds' negotiations with Valencia head in a positive direction and they successfully manage to lure the striker to Elland Road it would be a massive statement of intent shown by the Premier League newcomers.
Rodrigo, who has spent time in England before, on loan at Bolton Wanderers back in 2010, has been linked with a whole host of big-name clubs during his five-year stint at Valencia, including global heavyweights Barcelona, who were very keen on signing him back in January.
The Spanish giants were keen to lure the striker to the Nou Camp and has opened talks with Valencia about the prospect of getting a deal over the line, but did not manage to reach an agreement over a transfer fee.
Barcelona's interest in the 29-year-old came after former Barcelona boss Quique Setien lavished him with praise, describing him as an "extraordinary footballer."
Speaking in January this year, Setien, ahead of a tussle between Barcelona and Valencia, said: "Rodrigo? I like all good players. He's an extraordinary footballer, tomorrow he could give us problems and he is a key player for their team.
"I would have preferred if he wasn't playing, but we know that if he's not there then there is another player, Valencia have a great squad with or without Rodrigo."
Though the Spaniard is 29-years-old and would be an anomaly in Leeds' summer recruitment drive, with all of their signings so far having been 23-years-old or younger, he would add a wealth of experience and talent to Leeds' attacking ranks.
During the 2019/20 campaign, Rodrigo, who has also spent time with Benfica in the past, scored seven goals in 34 outings, as well as registering 11 assists.
