Barcelona's outrageous Neymar transfer plan could backfire spectacularly - latest rumours

Barcelona want Neymar back and it seems they'll stop at nothing to make it happen.

Their latest ploy to tempt Paris Saint-Germain into a sale involved offering £90million plus no fewer than SIX of their own players to the Ligue 1 champions.

It was reported Ivan Rakitic, Philippe Coutinho, Ousmane Dembele, Nelson Semedo, Malcom and Samuel Umtiti were all put on a plate for PSG if it meant they were willing to let Neymar go.

PSG look unlikely to accept the offer but that could end up being the least of Barca's problems.

Top-level players don't take too well to being publicly flogged in the world's most expensive car-boot sale and it's claimed one of those involved has already spoken up.

According to Fox Sports, Rakitic requested talks with boss Ernesto Valverde to categorically state he has no desire to be involved in the outlandish deal, a message which was then passed on to the Barcelona board.

Quite how Coutinho and Dembele, both purchased for in excess of £100m each, feel about it remains to be seen but it's hard to imagine them being overly impressed.

Over in England, Arsenal director Josh Kroenke has moved to placate an increasingly frustrated support over a lack of transfer business.

Kroenke has told fans to get excited at the prospect of a few signings "on the doorstep".

His comments could precede a third approach for Kieran Tierney, while Wilfried Zaha and William Saliba are also targets.

There's just three weeks of the English transfer window remaining but Kroenke is in buoyant mood.

He said: "I would say be excited. There are a few things that I know our group are working on, and a few things we hopefully have on the doorstep.

"Nothing is ever a done deal until it’s a done deal, obviously, but we know we have key areas we want to address in our squad, both now and in the future.

"Our entire football operations staff have a great grasp on that and I’ve encouraged them to be as aggressive as possible."
