Barcelona's Ousmane Dembele transfer stance explained amid Liverpool links

Barcelona are not looking to sell Ousmane Dembele this summer and would only consider a transfer if "a very important offer" arrived, according to reports in Spain.

The French World Cup winner has been tentatively linked with Liverpool in this and other transfer windows, with Jurgen Klopp known to be an admirer of a player the Reds looked at when he was at Rennes back in Brendan Rodgers' final summer at Anfield in 2015.

He eventually joined Klopp's former club Borussia Dortmund a year later, and even ended up renting the German's former home after he became Liverpool manager in October 2015 following the sacking of Rodgers.

Things have been somewhat hit and miss for Dembele after joining Barca in the summer of 2017, with a mixture of fitness and discipline issues making life tough for him as he's sought to replace Neymar at the Nou Camp.

But with Neymar seemingly being lined up for a return to the club, Catalan publication Sport claim that Barca remain unmoved on the future of the 22-year-old, who has always been a favourite of boss Ernesto Valverde.

They write "the position of Barca to this day does not contemplate the transfer of Dembele" - adding that only a huge fee similar to one they signed him for would tempt them into selling.

Barca agreed a deal which could rise to £135.5million with Dortmund for Dembele two years ago, after which he has gone on to score 18 goals in 65 appearances for the club.

Liverpool were credited with an interest in Dembele earlier this week, but the recently crowned European champions remain unlikely to spend such a huge sum on one player in this transfer window.
