Barcelona's message to Antoine Griezmann in crisis talks over Nou Camp future

Antoine Griezmann's agent reportedly met with Barcelona chiefs on Tuesday to discuss the forward's future following his disappointing debut season at the club.

Big things were expected of the 29-year-old following his £107m move from Atletico Madrid last summer but he has largely failed to deliver the goods so far, with his goal against Villarreal on Sunday his first in ten games in La Liga.

Griezmann's agent Maud, who is also his sister, is said to have had discussions with director of football Eric Abidal and manager Quique Setien about her brother.

But according to French publication L'Equipe she was assured that Griezmann is still very much in the club's plans and will not be sold in the summer.

Setien is alleged to have said: "We are counting on him enormously", and it is believed he is convinced the player will be much improved next season.

Barcelona currently lie in second place in La Liga, four points behind leaders Real Madrid with four games left to play, and it appears their hopes of winning a third title in a row are fading fast.

There had been rumours that Setien was on the brink of losing his job, but their president Josep Bartomeu insisted in an interview with radio station Rac1 that this was not the case.

"Setien will obviously continue,” he said. “At this moment I'm pretty happy with how the team has evolved and in the last couple of games we have seen the improvements Setien has made.

“I don't regret the decision to sack Valverde. We needed to give the team a boost and Setien has brought new ideas and new sensations with him."

Barcelona are next in action on Wednesday night when they take on local rivals Espanyol before facing Valladolid on Saturday.
