Barcelona's Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho discuss 'special' Liverpool return and reveal Jordan Henderson chats

Liverpool are set for a Champions League semi-final showdown with Barcelona.

The Reds travel out to face the Catalan giants at the Camp Nou on Wednesday night before playing the return leg at Anfield the following Tuesday.

It is a mouthwatering contest with two European heavyweights set to go head-to-head.

Then add to that mix that two of Liverpool's brightest stars of recent seasons in Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho have made the move to the La Liga club and will now face Jurgen Klopp's side backed by fans that formerly adored the pair and you've got an incredibly exciting match-up.

Both Suarez and Coutinho lit up Anfield during their time at Liverpool. The gifted South American attackers produced an array of match-winning displays of majestic brilliance and left behind a host of memories .

What Barcelona fans really think of Liverpool Champions League tie

Suarez was simply sensational as he plundered 31 league goals in the unexpected title push that followed in 2014 but then jumped ship to Barca after sinking his teeth into Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup.

He scored 82 goals in 133 appearances over the course of three-and-a-half years at Liverpool, and left with only a League Cup triumph to show for his efforts.

"It has been a while since we've played in the semi-finals of the Champions League and we are really looking forward to the final part of our season," the Uruguayan said.

"In the Champions League you can not have any second of distraction because you pay for it.

"The atmosphere of the Camp Nou made it clear to us that people also want this title.

Virgil van Dijk on why Liverpool won't fear Lionel Messi in Champions League showdown

"Liverpool can come out playing the ball from behind, have very good players in the middle that do well the ball to the forwards.

"They can have a similar shape to which we have. I do not think there's much difference in style, but we're both strong rivals.

"Obviously, I am looking forward to returning to Anfield, where one receives a lot of affection. I talk to Henderson a lot and he's obviously looking forward to playing against Philippe and myself, it will be a special match - I remember the people there with a lot of affection.

"For the two of us it gives us the chance to play against our former team but that creates a bit of uncertainty on a personal level but as a team our goal is clear - I go into it like any semi-final with the added extra of playing against my former team."

Coutinho stuck around longer than Suarez. The Brazilian netted 54 times in 201 matches during his five-year stint, but didn't get his hands on any silverware.

After a slow start to his Anfield career, he blossomed and his influence on the team grew and grew. But, like Suarez, his head was turned by the Catalan giants just months after penning a new long-term contract.

Liverpool star Andy Robertson on the roles him and Trent Alexander-Arnold will play against Barcelona

"I really want to play my first Champions League semi-final and do it well," he said.

"Also, going back to Anfield will be very special because I was very happy in Liverpool.

"The Champions League is our great goal and we have to have the strong mentality to face this kind of game.

"Liverpool is a team with a very strong mentality, especially as a local. I have been watching them all season and they are excellent in attack and defense and are a great team, we have to be alert.

"They are not only strong at the front, they have a great team and Anfield has a great atmosphere - it's a special stadium and those fans who don't know it, will soon."
