Barcelona's interest in Raheem Sterling 'intensifies' as clubs monitor Man City starlet

Welcome to the City Is Ours daily round-up, your daily dose of Manchester City news that you might have missed.

A handful of sides are queuing up to sign one of Pep Guardiola's most exciting prospects, but one of his City teammates has been told he won't be allowed to leave the club despite reports linking him with a move to Newcastle.

Meanwhile, Barcelona have reportedly lodged their interest in Ferran Torres, yet Raheem Sterling was the main topic of conversation as one of Barca's chiefs made the trip to Manchester.

Championship sides queue up for Doyle

Football League World report that Manchester City youngster Tommy Doyle has attracted interest from Swansea, Barnsley and Blackpool.

The report claims that the three clubs are happy to offer the midfielder more game time, with Doyle so far having played just 71 minutes for Hamburg. The youngster is also attracting interest from clubs in France, Spain and the Netherlands.

Our view: While Doyle may not have played as much as he might have liked during the early part of his loan spell, he's beginning to settle and looks like he could enjoy a big season with the German side.

I can certainly see the appeal of sending Doyle elsewhere, but personally, I think Doyle could thrive under Tim Walter and I hope City allow him more time to settle in Germany.

City make Ake January transfer decision

City will block the January departure of Nathan Ake amid Newcastle United's interest in the 26-year-old, according to Football Insider.

The report claims that Guardiola's side are not willing to let the Dutchman leave in the winter window and plan on rebuffing any advances.

Ake featured 121 times under the Magpies' new boss at Bournemouth and enjoyed some of the best form of his career on the south coast.

Our view: I can understand why City are blocking a winter move away for Ake as they need to be wary of any injuries in the centre of their defence. However, if he were to push for a departure then I think they'd be wrong to stop him given his lack of game time.

Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if Ake left in the summer after City have had a chance to bring in a replacement.

Barcelona chief meets with City

Barcelona's director of football Mateu Alemany travelled to City's offices on Friday to enquire about the services of Sterling, according to journalist Sique Rodríguez.

It's claimed that the Catalan side are keen on bolstering their strike force, with RB Leipzig's Dani Olmo also of interest.

However, while Sterling's future seems uncertain, The Telegraph have reported that allowing the England international to leave in January is not part of City's plans.

It's claimed that City are ready to reject offers for Sterling and will instead 'step up' their efforts to secure the 26-year-old's long-term future at the club.

Our view: I think it'd be a massive shame to see City lose Sterling - I still think he's one of the best in the league - but I could totally understand why he might want to leave.

The winger is currently valued at £81 million by Transfermarkt , and if Guardiola does decide to let him leave then he'll no doubt be able to demand a hefty fee from his former club.

Whether Barcelona can afford Sterling is an entirely different matter, but with City likely to bolster their midfield in the summer, the sale of Sterling would boost their transfer kitty ahead of their expected spending spree.
