Barcelona forward Ansu Fati became the youngest goalscorer in Champions League history with his late winner against Inter Milan at San Siro on Tuesday night.
The teenager, who turned 17 on October 31st, was only a substitute for a youthful Barca side in Milan after recovering from a minor injury, but the Guinea Bissau-born attacker replaced Carles Perez with five minutes left and sealed victory for the Blaugrana moments later with a superb strike.
With the scores at 1-1 after goals from Perez and Romelu Lukaku and the match seemingly headed for a draw, Fati ran forward with the ball in a central position, played a one-two with fellow substitute Luis Suarez and hit a low, right-footed shot from outside the box past Samir Handanovic and inside the post after 87 minutes.
In doing so, he became the youngest scorer in Champions League history at just 17 years and 140 days.
The record was previously held by former Ghana striker Peter Ofori-Quaye, who netted for Olympiacos against Rosenborg at 17 years and 194 days in 1997.
Ansu Fati signed a contract extension at Barca last week, which keeps him at the Catalan club until 2022, with the option of two more seasons after that.
The deal will also see his release clause rise to €400 million when he turns 18 next year.
