Barcelona president says 'door is always open' for Man City boss Pep Guardiola to return

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has told Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola that 'the door will always be open for him' to return to the club.

Guardiola emerged from the club's famous La Masia academy to become a star player during his playing days, then returning to the club as a manager and overseeing a trophy-laden era of success.

From there, he moved to Bayern Munich and won titles in Germany before doing the same with Manchester City in the Premier League, further establishing his standing as one of the best coaches in the world.

Speculation on his future has started to emerge this season though, although Guardiola has regularly pointed out that his contract runs until 2021, and a return to Barcelona has been muted.

While Guardiola has refused to be drawn into discussions around a potential return to Catalonia, those in Spain have made it clear they'd welcome him back with open arms and Bartomeu has reiterated that stance.

“It doesn't depend on me. It was Pep who decided to leave, but the door will always be open for him at Barca," he told La Repubblica.

Currently led by Ernesto Valverde, Barcelona sit joint-top of La Liga alongside Real Madrid and have qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League.
