Barcelona 'prefer Marcus Rashford and Harry Kane to Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino' as they replace Luis Suarez

Barcelona have reportedly held high-level talks over how best to replace former Liverpool forward Luis Suarez - with the Spanish giants seemingly dismissing Roberto Firmino as a potential target.

Suarez, who turns 33 in January, is expected to depart in the summer, with the Spanish giants having already recruited Antoine Griezmann during the summer.

A report in Mundo Deportivo has suggested the Catalans will look for a central striker to replace Suarez, who in 255 appearances for the club has contributed 183 goals and 96 assists.

The two chief targets are said to be Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe and Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane, although Barcelona accept it would take big money to prise either out of their current long-term contracts.

Inter Milan's Lautaro Martinez, a 22-year-old Argentina international, is regarded as a cheaper alternative.

And Barca have also kept tabs on Manchester United youngster Marcus Rashford, who is preferred to Firmino.

Blood Red: Is Roberto Firmino the best Brazilian to have graced the Premier League?

The report claims the powerbrokers at Camp Nou haven't reached a consensus over the 28-year-old Brazilian, who has become a key part of Liverpool's side under Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool supporters will be delighted with Barcelona's apparent view, and there is no suggestion Firmino is unsettled at Anfield having joined fellow forward Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah in penning a new lengthy deal in the last 18 months.

Firmino is expected to go face-to-face with Rashford when Liverpool visit their bitter North West rivals United next Sunday.
