Antoine Griezmann transfer latest: Barcelona positive over beating PSG to summer deal

Barcelona are confident they will sign Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid this summer, despite late interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

Griezmann announced on Tuesday that he will leave Atletico at the end of this season, saying he needs “new challenges” after five seasons in Madrid.

Barca’s interest in the 28-year-old is long-standing and the Catalan club had hoped to sign the France forward last year, only to miss out following a last-minute change of heart from the player.

But a year on, Griezmann has opted to leave and Barcelona are frontrunners for his signature this summer, with the player having told the Blaugrana that he is keen on a move.

PSG are also interested, though, and L’Equipe report that the French champions met with representatives of the player last week.

With Edinson Cavani set to leave the Parc des Princes this summer, Griezmann is wanted as a replacement and could line up alongside Neymar and Kylian Mbappe in a star-studded front three.

But Barca see the Atletico attacker as a player who could operate in several positions in their forward line, also acting as a potential successor to Luis Suarez, and the Spanish champions believe they will get their man this time around.

Griezmann will be available for €120million when his release clause drops from €200m on July 1.
