Barcelona pay price after former Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho 'makes decision' over January transfer

Former Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho has reportedly made a decision over his future at Barcelona.

The Brazilian left Anfield in January 2018 in a £142million deal, but things have not gone fully to plan since his exit.

Coutinho had a loan spell with Bayern Munich in 2019/20, and seemingly ever since he has been linked with a move away from the Nou Camp.

Ronaldo Koeman’s departure as manager and Xavi’s appointment has led to further speculation that Coutinho could be on the move once again.

However, according to a fresh report in Spanish news outlet Sport, Coutinho is prepared to fight for his place at Barca and is not looking to leave the club in the New Year.

The report goes on to say that Barcelona are ‘concerned’ about having Coutinho’s wage on their books, given he is the club’s highest earner following many summer departures including Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann.

Coutinho has scored one goal in nine appearances for Barca this season, and despite hoping to stay at the club beyond January his long-term future does not appear to be at the Nou Camp.

It has also been claimed in the report that next summer is the likely time that Coutinho’s time with Barcelona will come to an end.
