Neymar has made his mind up to leave Paris Saint-Germain after just two seasons at the Parc des Princes.
The Brazilian forward is unlikely to play for PSG again as his future is decided, with Barcelona and Real Madrid the two clubs in the running for his signature.
Barca and Madrid competed for the forward's signing in 2013, when the Santos attacker opted to move to Camp Nou, and the 27-year-old would now favour a return to the Catalan club.
But the Blaugrana are struggling to put together a financial package, offering players plus cash to PSG, and the French champions would rather negotiate with Real Madrid.
While Barca officials travelled to Paris on Tuesday to discuss a deal, Madrid are monitoring developments and could make a move later in the window.
There are some doubts, however, as to whether either team really needs Neymar.
Barcelona have already signed Antoine Griezmann this summer and have Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele in their attacking ranks.
Madrid, meanwhile, have brought in Eden Hazard and even though Los Blancos are still in the market for one more big signing, strengthening the midfield was thought to be the main priority for coach Zinedine Zidane.
