Reports in Spain suggest a deal has been agreed for Barcelona to sign Manchester City winger Ferran Torres, with the La Liga club offering a new update on their transfer interest.
Barcelona have publicly confirmed they want to sign Torres, who only joined City from Valencia 18 months ago, with the Spanish international open to leaving if a deal can be agreed.
That has led to plenty of speculation from Spain regarding how much Barcelona would pay for Torres, and if they could even afford him at all. Barcelona's financial difficulties are well-documented, and City would demand a healthy profit on the £20m they paid Valencia for Torres in 2020.
In fact, a new report in El Nacional claims that Barcelona and City have agreed a swap deal that would see Torres move to the Nou Camp, with Dutch midfielder Frenkie De Jong moving the other way. It's claimed City value Torres at around £60m, with Barcelona unable to afford such a figure - however they may be willing to include De Jong in a deal as they also value him at £60m.
Speaking this week, Barcelona Director of Football Mateu Alemany has addressed their attempts to sign Torres, confirming that players will have to leave in January in order for them to make any new signings.
"We have many duties, the first thing is to do a financial 'fair play' to be able to sign," he is quoted as saying by Sport.
"There have to be exits and actions to have the 'fair play', it is clear what we want, although I will not say it."
Asked directly about Torres, Alemany refused to deny Barcelona's interest, replying: "We have clear ideas, we are going step by step."
Torres hasn't played for City since October, when he picked up a foot injury on international duty. He is expected back around January, and earlier this month posted a picture of himself with a ball at the City Football Academy, accompanied by the caption 'soon'.
