Barcelona new boy Antoine Griezmann reveals Lionel Messi snub

Barcelona new boy Antoine Griezmann admits Lionel Messi has snubbed the chance to reach out and welcome him to the club.

The French star has linked up with his new team-mates at the Nou Camp after his big-money move from Atletico Madrid.

But Messi and fellow frontman Luis Suarez are yet to return from the Copa America and meet their new attacking partner.

Griezmann has now revealed how Suarez called him to congratulate him on his move and welcome him to Barcelona - with Messi opting not to do the same.

The Argentinian superstar was reportedly not keen on the club signing Griezmann due to perceived unhappiness at his handling of the situation last summer, when he opted to stay in Madrid rather than join the Catalan club.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of Barcelona's clash with Chelsea in Tokyo, Griezmann said: "Messi has not called me yet, but Suarez did.

"He congratulated me and welcomed me.

“The group received me really well and I’m very happy to share a dressing room with them.

“I hope I can help them as much as possible.”

The World Cup winner has recently declared his excitement at playing with Messi, stating at his unveiling: "I am excited about seeing him.

"Playing alongside Lionel Messi will be a huge pleasure."

Griezmann may not be the only huge attacking signing at Barcelona this summer.

The club are being linked with a huge move to bring back Neymar from Paris Saint-Germain as the Brazilian pushes for an exit.

But Griezmann insists he has not yet heard Neymar being discussed in the dressing room.

"Well, no," he said when asked if Neymar is being talked about.

"In any case there are also Dembélé, Coutinho and Malcom."
