Griezmann latest: Barcelona negotiate transfer as Neymar poses in new PSG kit

Barcelona are in negotiations to sign Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid and could tie up a deal by next week, but a possible move for Neymar is still up in the air after the Brazilian forward appeared in pictures promoting Paris Saint-Germain's new kit on Monday.

Griezmann announced in May that he would be leaving Atletico and the 28-year-old has been in contact with Barcelona over a summer switch ever since March.

The French forward came close to joining Barca last year, but changed his mind at the last minute and announced his decision to stay at Atleti in a documentary aired at the start of the World Cup.

Following that snub, the Blaugrana were reluctant to move again for the Atletico attacker, but were given assurances by the player's entourage in March that he would be prepared to join this time around.

As part of the new contract he agreed with the Rojiblancos last summer, Griezmann was given a release clause of €200 million, but the agreement sees that figure drop to €120m from Monday and the arrival of that date saw the Catalans commence official negotiations with the Madrid side for his signing.

Transfer news and rumours for Monday, 1st July

Some reports in Spain have indicated that Barca will pay around €126m for Griezmann, with the extra money to allow for the deal to be paid in instalments. However, the Catalan club would prefer to pay the whole amount up front and that would suit Atleti, with the Rojiblancos awaiting the funds in order to complete the signing of Benfica's attacking midfielder Joao Felix for the same price.

Barca are set to unveil Frenkie de Jong to their fans at Camp Nou on Friday after the Ajax midfielder agreed a deal in January and Griezmann could follow next week.

The Catalans have raised around €213m in player sales over the past financial year, with Lucas Digne, Marlon, Yerry Mina, Marc Cucurella, Paulinho, Aleix Vidal, Munir El Haddadi, Paco Alcacer, Marc Cardona, Jasper Cillessen, Andre Gomes and Denis Suarez all departing in that period.

Those funds, plus possible further sales this summer, could allow for Neymar to be brought back to the club along with Griezmann in the current window .

The Brazilian forward is keen to return, but PSG will not let their player leave without a fight and the 27-year-old was included in the promotion pictures for the Parisians' new kit on Monday.

Some senior figures at Barca are still upset over the manner of Neymar's exit in the first place, while his potential return has also raised questions from senior officials outside of the club.

"In my opinion, if Neymar behaves better, he can be a great player," Liga president Javier Tebas told Spanish radio station Onda Cero on Sunday night.

"But I think behaviour and the values that we set as a competition are also very important. I prefer another type of player.

"Neymar is a great player, but if the example off the pitch is not correct, then to be honest, I'd prefer him not to come to the Spanish league."
