Barcelona move to stave off Liverpool transfer interest by offering youngster new deal

Barcelona have moved to stave off Liverpool’s interest in rising star Pedri by offering him a new deal.

The 18-year-old attacking midfielder has been a revelation at the Nou Camp this season after breaking into the first team at the start of the campaign and his form with Barca has seen him capped three times by Spain already.

Liverpool have recorded their interest with the player’s representatives but the Catalan giants have made it clear they want to extend his current contract.

That still has another year to run with the option of a further two years and it contains a release clause of around £70million.

Under the new terms on offer, he would get a four-year deal with a release clause closer to an eye-watering — and prohibitive — £350m.

Liverpool know that getting Pedri out of Barcelona won’t be easy, but that won’t stop them trying.
