Barcelona, Manchester United and how Liverpool's wage bill compares to European giants

Liverpool might have won the Premier League last season but there's one table they're not top of - and Jurgen Klopp will be rather glad of that.

SafeBettingSites have compiled a list of the highest average annual player salary across the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga and Ligue 1 with the Reds ranking eighth across the five major European leagues for the 2019/20 season.

According to the site, Liverpool paid an average annual salary of $7.25m last year, over $5m less than top-spenders FC Barcelona.

The Catalans forked out $12.28m per player on average, with Real Madrid ($11.15m) and Juventus ($10.11m) making up the top three.

Meanwhile, the Reds ranked third in the Premier League with both Manchester City ($9.15m) and Manchester United ($8.02m) paying out more to players.

Paris Saint-Germain ($8.93m) and Bayern Munich ($8.12m) also paid out more than Liverpool, with Atletico Madrid ($7.04m) and Arsenal ($6.27) completing the top 10 behind the Reds.

Elsewhere in the Premier League, Chelsea's average annual player salary stood at $6.24m, while Everton and Tottenham paid out $5.36m and $5.18m respectively.

Liverpool have moved to tie the majority of Klopp 's squad to extended deals on improved terms over the past 18 months, with the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane agreeing new terms.
