Barcelona 'managing interest' in Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool as £38m defender linked

The January transfer window is moving ever closer, and Liverpool continue to be linked with potential new additions to their squad.

Ibrahima Konate was the only first-team addition that the Reds brought to the club during the summer window, while several left Anfield either on a loan basis or on permanent deals.

Despite the transfer window still being closed, that hasn’t stopped Liverpool being credited with an interest in a host of players.

Here, we take a lookout some of the latest rumours doing the rounds online and on social media and how likely they are to happen.

Who?

Rayan Ait-Nouri, Wolves full-back.

Where?

El Nacional , Spanish news outlet.

What?

According to the report, Liverpool are one of a number of clubs supposedly expressing an interest in Ait-Nouri, who is a France under-21 international.

The report goes on to say that Real Madrid and Manchester City have joined Liverpool in showing an interest in the 20-year-old.

It has been claimed that Wolves value Ait-Nouri at around €25million (£21m).

Ait-Nouri played at left-back for Wolves in their 1-0 defeat to Liverpool earlier this month, and is also capable of playing further forward in a wing-back role.

Who?

Ronald Araujo, Barcelona centre-back.

Where?
El Nacional , Spanish news outlet.

What?

According to the report, Jurgen Klopp is keen to bring the Uruguayan centre-back to Anfield in the near future.

The report goes on to say that Araujo, whose contract at the Nou Camp expires in the summer, is taking his time over whether to sign an extension.

It has also been claimed that Liverpool are looking at the possibility of signing Araujo, with a fee of 45 million euros (£38m) being quoted as the asking price.

Given Liverpool currently have five senior centre-backs, albeit one in the form of Nat Phillips could depart in January, the chances of Klopp sanctioning a £38m move for a new defender when they just signed Ibrahima Konate you would imagine is not that likely.

Who?

Philippe Coutinho, Barcelona midfielder.

Where?

Mundo Deportivo , Spanish news outlet.

What?

According to the report, Coutinho’s representatives are ‘managing the interest’ from Liverpool and other clubs.

Everton and Newcastle United are also being credited with an interest, as are Serie A champions Inter Milan.

The report goes on to say that Coutinho’s agent is waiting for a club to make the first move, with no indication yet as to which club leads the race.

Coutinho has been tentatively linked with a return to Anfield in the past, but those rumours have always been false and there is no reason to think this is any different.
