Barcelona legend Gerard Pique makes Everton claim about European Super League plan

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has name-checked Everton when speaking out against plans for a European Super League.

Pique says a breakaway league, of which his club have signed up for, would spell the end for teams on the outside - including the Blues.

The six clubs from the Premier League that had signed up for the plans but have since began to withdraw after a ferocious backlash and the scheme now looks to be in tatters.

Pique has been quoted as telling Universo Valdano : "Do we want this for football?

"That Seville, Valencia, Everton, Leicester, Naples disappear? Because those clubs are going to tend to be worth zero."

Everton issued a fiercely worded statement on Tuesday morning, accusing the six clubs of "preposterous arrogance".

The plans would create a new midweek European league which would be made up almost exclusively of teams who had been invited and would be guaranteed near permanent involvement.
