Barcelona 'furious' with Ousmane Dembele following failed Man Utd transfer

Barcelona were reportedly infuriated after Ousmane Dembele refused to move to Manchester United ahead of the transfer deadline on Monday.

Dembele was linked with a move to Old Trafford as the Red Devils sounded out alternative targets after failing to land Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund.

The 23-year-old winger was even believed to have been contacted by France teammate and United star Paul Pogba to help get the deal over the line.

But in the end, Dembele chose not to leave Camp Nou and his decision left Barcelona unable to complete the signing of Netherlands forward Memphis Depay from Lyon.

The Catalan club were left furious by Dembele's choice, according to ESPN , as they had already made it clear he will not play a major role this season.

The World Cup winner has made just one appearance so far this campaign and is firmly out of manager Ronald Koeman's plans as he looks to rebuild Barcelona following their 8-2 humbling by Bayern Munich.

The club were keen to offload Dembele to free up funds for Memphis, while they also made defender Samuel Umtiti available on the market.

Umtiti, who also starred in France's 2018 World Cup triumph, has slipped down the pecking order after struggling with knee injuries.

The 26-year-old was informed he was free to leave and encouraged to find a new club, but Barcelona chiefs feel he did little to try and bring about a move and is instead happy to see out the remaining three years on his deal.

During an action-packed transfer window, Barcelona were able to offload striker Luis Suarez, midfielders Arturo Vidal and Ivan Rakitic, and defender Nelson Semedo as part of Koeman's rebuild.

But arrivals at Camp Nou were scarce, with Miralem Pjanic, Sergino Dest and Francisco Trincao the most high-profile arrivals.
